The winery

Adega Cooperativa de Silgueiros, CRL is a Wine Cooperative with around 2000 members, Wine Producers located in Silgueiros, Dão Wine Region. The Cellar was established in 1962 and started production in 1964. The main purpose of the winery foundation was to create successful production and distribution for such a famous wine, the Dão Wine and more particularly, the Silgueiros Wine.

Silgueiros

Silgueiros is located in Viseu municipality, about 9 km from Viseu city center. Given Silgueiros geographical location, it has a privileged position for the production of such precious nectar. The soils, of sandy loam origin, provide a splendid aroma to the wines here produced. With great slopes facing Serra da Estrela mountain and facing Dão river, Silgueiros it’s gifted with a unique climate for the maturation of the grapes. It can be said that Silgueiros its located in heart of the Dão Wine Region.

The region

In Dão region there are eight varieties of grapes stated as base of production. Five of them are red and three are white. The red varieties are: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Pinheira. The white varieties are: Encruzado, Malvazia Fina and Borrado das Moscas. In fact, any of our native grape varieties has a viticultural and oenological potential to be vinified separately as a varietal wine, but it is in their blend and combination, that all the strength and prestige of its wines is demonstrated.
