The International Wine Award was held for the first time in 2001. Even on its debut, it registered 2,235 entries from all the main wine regions in the world. And the record turnout in 2011 shows just how important competition has become in Germany in the meantime. 6,000 wines were entered.
The purpose of the International Wine Award is to promote the quality and commercialization of the registered wines. The prizes are intended to offer producers, winegrowers, importers and consumers a forum that allows, firstly, to compare wines and provide valuable assistance in decision-making and guidance in the purchase of wine and, secondly, , in a wide audience.
While welcomed by wine customers as a useful guidance aid, awards provide producers with recognition for their hard work. They can measure their own standard of performance in international competition and the awards they win allow for prestigious labels of successful products to market.
The MUNDUS VINI Awards will be held twice a year, with a summer tasting in August to match the fall fairs and end-of-year deals and a spring tasting in February before the Pro-Wein fair.
